Sendero Camino Viejo: tramo Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza- Lugar Nuevo

This path begins in Cerro del Cabezo, with its entire route descending.

The first section of this path runs along the banks of the Arroyo de la Virgen among rockrose, wild olive trees and some aromatic plants such as cantahueso and rosemary. To the left of this descent, called Cuesta de los Caracolillos, there is a magnificent view of Cerro del Cabezo, on which stands out the sanctuary of the Virgen de la Cabeza and the entire southern slope of it, known as the Solanas de la Virgin.

After approximately 1.7 km, you will reach the Camino Viejo viewpoint, from where you can see the valley of the Jándula River as it passes through Lugar Nuevo. In addition, with a bit of luck, you can see, in the skies of the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park, the imperial eagle, the black vulture or the golden eagle, since they are often found in this area.

From the viewpoint, the path starts to have a steeper slope, and extreme caution must be exercised. Once the descent is over, the vegetation changes and a repopulation of stone pine appears on the left, and on the right bank, in front, a holm oak meadow. Crossing said pasture we come to a Roman bridge that crosses the Jándula river, on whose banks there is a rich vegetation of ash, alders and oleanders.
