ACCEDER

Path Barranco de la Niebla

The esplanade at the beginning of the path will serve as a car park, and there is an old fountain there that has been restored. The vegetation we can see, as in other points of the former Nacional IV, is not what we would expect to find in a place like this. This is the result of a landscaping project that was carried out in the Despeñaperros Natural Park in the 1950s, which introduced exotic species such as cypresses and cedars, which today provide us with another contrast to enjoy.

DESCRIPTION

The first 1,000 metres of the path are a steep ascent, until you reach a somewhat flatter area. It is here that the path continues along an existing path, which we must continue for about 500 metres until we are forced to leave it in an easterly direction, to reach the confluence with the Barranco de Valdeazores path. From here, and continuing along the latter, we can reach the Refugio Collado de la Aviación, and a little further on we can enjoy spectacular views of the Los Órganos Natural Monument, as well as being able to see, on days with good visibility, a large part of the province of Jaén.

At this point we are offered two possibilities. On the one hand, the visitor can continue his return along the Path of the Barranco de Valdeazores, or opt for the return to the starting point of the Barranco de la Niebla Path, but along a different path to the one that goes up, which makes it a circular path.

Along our way we will have been able to enjoy one of the best representations of what the rest of the natural park is like in terms of different types of vegetation. The reforestations with species of the genus Pinus are interspersed with areas of Mediterranean hardwoods in which the holm oak and cork oak are the predominant species in the sunny areas, while in the shady areas the gall oak makes its way. All this, accompanied by a rich understory of junipers, strawberry trees, olives and a long etcetera that serve as a support for the populations of ungulates that have made this natural park so popular.
