On a relief of smooth profiles rises this lagoon of endoreic nature fed by the superficial runoff. The wetland, located in the southwest of Jaén, is surrounded by agricultural land and olive groves.
Its importance increases, as in the case of Laguna Honda, due to the scarcity of humid areas in the province. The natural vegetation has been transformed and only remains of the perilagunar vegetation. The most common species are the reed, the cattail and the tarage. The avifauna of this 6.5-hectare nature reserve, as such, and 39 hectares of protection zone, is related to that of the neighboring Laguna del Conde or Salobral in the province of Córdoba.
Surrounded by olive groves, it has little natural vegetation of cattails, reeds and reeds. Among the aquatic birds, the occasional presence of pink flamingos, stilts, mallards and wigeon and red and spoon ducks stands out. As for the terrestrial fauna, the rabbit and the red partridge abound in the area.
