Calle Alta. 23688, Alcalá la Real How to get

In the village of La Pedriza, 8 km from Alcalá la Real with an impressive dark sky, the Einstein Astronomy Society, with the collaboration of Alcalá la Real Town Hall, has first class facilities for the observation and dissemination of astronomy, the Andalusian Astronomy Observatory.

The Sierra Sur de Jaén, which has recently obtained the Starlight Reserve certificate, preserves intact the natural lighting conditions and clarity of the night sky. Likewise, it is an area where a commitment has been established to defend the quality of the night sky, access to starlight and the different associated values.

The main building, of about 70 square metres, houses the multipurpose room and library, observatory control room, small kitchen, toilet and archive.

To the north of the main building and totally independent, is the observatory itself. The lower floor serves as a storage room for the various instruments and accessories of the telescopes and has a small workshop for repairs.

The 4 metre diameter Scope Dome installed at the top houses a Meade S/C LX200-ACF GPS telescope with a 0.30 metre aperture at f/10, on an equatorial fork mount, supported by a separate rigid column.

The whole of the Andalusian Astronomy Observatory: Dome, telescope as well as its battery of accessories and instruments, can be operated remotely from any location.

On the terrace of the control room there is a weather station specially designed for use in an astronomical observatory and an automatic AllSky camera for detecting meteorites.
