La Loma y Las Villas

The region extends in the central area of the province of Jaén, in a band of landscape, smooth and undulating dominated by the impressive sea of olive trees, located between the upper course of the Guadalquivir river and the Guadalimar river, until its confluence, with orientation SO-NE. Limited to the north by Sierra Morena, to the south by Sierra Mágina and to the east by the Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and Las Villas, it opens to the west to the extensive valley of the Guadalquivir.

Its privileged location has made the Region the protagonist of important historical events since ancient times that have left valuable vestiges, and a magnificent architectural production, especially the Renaissance, which appears scattered throughout La Loma, finding its maximum splendor in the Úbeda complexes, Baeza or Sabiote.

As abundant as the monumental heritage is the crafts and gastronomy, where the offer is impressive: pottery and ceramics, forge, stonework, tapestry, esparto, stained glass and tapestries. To taste the typical delicacies of the gastronomy, you cannot miss dishes such as chickpea stew with chard, broad beans with aubergines, mareaos chickpeas, vigil dumplings, rags and slaughter products such as loin, blood sausage or chorizos, Baeza-style cod, pipirrana, rice soup or entomatada meat and sweets such as virolos, sponge flowers or homemade syrup dumplings and ochíos that will delight the most exquisite palates. All these meats can be washed down with their splendid Torreperogil wines, spirits and aniseed drinks such as risol and pigeon.

It also has natural spaces protected for their exceptional values ??such as the Puente de La Cerrada, Doña Aldonza and Pedro Marín reservoirs, on the Guadalquivir, and La Laguna Grande, humid areas of singular importance that are home to numerous aquatic birds.
