Villadompardo
Villardompardo is a small town in the district of Campiña, to the west of the Jaén, on the banks of the Salado de los Villares. The town itself is situated high up on a ridge overlooking to the surrounding countryside, which is covered in olive groves and is largely flat with some hilly areas.
The local economy is almost exclusively dedicated to agriculture and specifically to rain-fed olives, which occupy almost the entire area. Villardompardo continues to have success with made-to-order furniture. The majority of the work of this joinery revolves around a classic Spanish line with renaissance connotations, similar to the typical furniture of Granada in the first half of the 20th century, using mainly beech and chestnut.
Highlights of the town’s historical heritage include the castle, which was declared an “Asset of Cultural Interest” in 1985, and the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia (Church of Our Lady of Grace).
