Jimena

Jimena is a small town in the south of the province, on the northern face of the Sierra Mágina, set in a landscape of olive groves, fruit trees, allotments and sierra.

The town is particularly well known for its figs and brebas. The township is made up of two very different areas: there is the mountainous southeast area which is part of the Sierra Mágina Natural Park, and the rest of the township is farmland dedicated to olives.

The local economy is based on olives and related businesses, although the growing of figs and brebas is also an important source of income for the town.

Cultural highlights include the Levantine cave paintings in the Cueva de la Graja (Cave of the Rook). Other attractions include the castle, which was built in the Late Middle Ages and given to the Order of Calatrava in 1434, and the Iglesia Parroquial de Santiago el Mayor (Parochial Church of Saint James the Great), built in a Gothic style and renovated in 1960.
