Jamilena is a small town west of the city of Jaén, at the foot of the Sierra Sur and Sierra de la Grana, in the foothills of the limestone massif of Jabalcuz, in a landscape dominated by olive groves.

The main access to the town is via the JV-2211, which joins the A-316 on the stretch of motorway between Jaén and Martos.
The municipal area is the smallest in the province, at just 8.99 km2, and can be divided into two halves: the sierra, dedicated to pasture, and the other half occupied by olive trees.
The local economy is mainly based on olives. However, another great product of Jamilena is garlic. It is not actually grown in the area but instead grown in other parts of the province or the country and then preserved, processed, packaged and marketed here. It is one of the main employers in the town, alongside the construction and metal industries. There is also some mining activity, including a cement works.
Beyond the sierra, known as Peña or Pecho de la Fuente, is a hill known as Cerro Miguelico and the natural forest, Bosque de la Bañizuela.
A highlight of the town’s monument heritage includes the Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Natividad (Parochial Church of Our Lady of the Nativity), built in the 16th century and declared a ‘Historic Monument’ in 1994
