A town in the north of the province of Jaén, on the banks of the Guadalquivir river, which crosses the local area, giving rise to allotments and olive groves. The north of the area has the distinctly Mediterranean forest landscape of Sierra Morena, which also forms part of the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park.

The town’s historic and artistic heritage includes the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Natividad (Church of Our Lady of the Nativity), built in 1604 on top of a previous medieval temple. Other buildings of interest include the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall), the Capilla del Cortijo de San Nicolás (Chapel of the Estate of Saint Nicholas), dating from the 18th century, and the Prensa de la Torre, an 18th-century oil-press mill.
