Cambil

Cambil is a township in the south of the province of Jaén, in the district of Sierra Mágina. The municipal area climbs from the Guadabullón river to the south towards the peak of  Mount Almadén, the second highest peak in the province.

The local area consists of fields of cereals, olive trees and fruit trees, all irrigated by the Villanueva, Oviedo and Cambil rivers.
The township contains many fascinating sites and villages, such as Arbuniel, which is an ideal summer destination because of its great supply of water and pleasant, or the hamlet of Mata Bejid with its unique and historic architecture.

Amongst Cambil's artistic heritage is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación (Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation), which dates from the end of the 16th century and is built in a renaissance style. It contains an extraordinary renaissance alter piece by Sebastián Solís.

There is also the Antiguo Hospital (Old Hospital), built in the second half of the 18th century and one of the best examples of the baroque style in the province of Jaén.
