El torreón de Lupión

La Loma, Jaén. 23528, Lupión How to get

Lupión is a small municipality located two kilometers from Begíjar and very close to Baeza. When it was an Iberian-Roman oppidum, it had rich pasturelands and abundant wolves, which gave rise to its name.

The Lupión keep belonged to an old medieval castle that can be dated to the 13th century, made of masonry in regular courses, with ashlar walls. Its floor plan reaches a square shape in the internal part, the oldest, bordering the parade ground, while the exterior, which faces the street, is round, perhaps because it was later reformed to avoid the destructive effects of artillery. . Internally, its two floors are covered with half-orange brick vaults. The terrace preserves the crenellated structure with dogs, as well as the corbels of a disappeared defensive machicolation.

It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985.
