Castillo de segura de la sierra

Calle Castillo. 23379, Segura de la Sierra How to get

The fortress of Segura de la Sierra, built by the Almohads on the remains of an ancient Roman watchtower, was conquered by the Christians in the mid-13th century. It was profoundly transformed by the Order of Santiago, which placed in it the center of the Encomienda de Castilla, and which became the residence of the Grand Master of the Order of Santiago in the last quarter of the 15th century. It was the axis of one of the most important territorial and jurisdictional entities of Castile in the course of the 13th to 15th centuries due to its privileged border enclave, a natural and cultural border territory, between Muslim and Christian cultures. As a child, the poet Jorqe Manrique - his father, Don Roqrigo de Marique, was Commander of Segura - and here he wrote a large part of his work. This town was also a place of inspiration for Francisco de Quevedo, of whom they say he even had an affair with a young woman. The visit to the castle includes the Entrance Tower, the Patio de Armas, the Arab Baths, the Torre del Homenaje, the Chapel, the Aljibe, the Refectory and the Adarves
