Cycling route: Siles - El Portichuelo - El Seminario - La Canalica - Siles

This circular route commences in the village of Siles. Follow the forest track towards Portichuelo, which affords unparalleled views of the town and the Castrobayona farmlands that announce the nearby mountains of Albacete. You can still see traces of the hard life of the farmers who once lived in this area. El Portichuelo is also the point of departure of various short signposted footpaths.

DESCRIPTION

The circular route begins in the town of Siles. We head along the forest track towards the Portichuelo pass, from which we have unbeatable views of the town and the Vega de Castrobayona, a prelude to the neighboring Albacete mountains and which shows the difficult agricultural life of the ancient inhabitants of the area. El Portichuelo is also the starting point for several marked trails with a short route.

We will continue the main track continuously uphill. When you pass the sign to the La Rayuela viewpoint - which is essential to visit - there is a very pronounced curve to the left and a slightly descending track appears in front, which is the one we take. We continue on a well-deserved descent that will allow us to regain strength, and we contemplate unbeatable views of Siles and its surroundings, the olive grove in the lower area and the pine forests in medium and high altitudes. This area is very conducive to the observation of marine fossils, especially ammonites, which lived in the sea millions of years ago.

Just as we pass by a small water channel hut that is at the foot of the track, we have unbeatable views of the Barranco de las Anchuricas and Los Calarejos. Finally and in a more pronounced descent we will cross a stream with permanent water and we will find a small building on our left that corresponds to a water survey that was carried out several years ago. From here there is a profound change in the forest, as we enter a pine forest of slender and tall black pines, very rich in grass and much cooler than what we had traveled on the other side of the slope. Again we begin to climb.

After 2 km of climbing, we come to some farmhouses that are on our right. At Cortijo Pantorrillas, we recommend a detour before returning to our route: take the track that starts to the left, rising steeper and in the opposite direction, to follow it to its end in approximately 2 km. If we pay attention to our right, at the base of the rocky cliffs that rise above us we will find several thousand-year-old copies of yew. It is the most important tejeda in the Natural Park. Later we will return to Cortijo Pantorrillas, to continue the tour following the track. At 700 m we leave the large building of the Siles Free Time Residence, known as El Seminario, on the left and finally we come to the paved road.

When we reach the road, we turn right to descend slightly until we reach a crossroads 1 km below where we must turn left to enter the track again and climb again. Right at this point we find a magnificent fountain. We go in the direction of the Camping de la Fuente de la Canalica, towards which we will have to deviate following the entrance indications, but before going through the access door, we will have to continue along a track that opens in front. This will take us with a gentle ascent through places of great beauty, such as Piedra del Agujero and Cerro Bucentaina, which we will surround, to give a view of the Morles river valley, and already in a much more pronounced and pleasant descent, we will arrive at La Peña of the Olivar. It is a unique place suitable for bathing that has a recreational area and a botanical collection. From there and by road we head towards Siles. A few meters after passing the Río Los Molinos campsite, we will turn off to our right, with 1 km to go to Siles, thus avoiding a further paved section and entering the town by dirt track.
