DESCRIPTION

This circular route is one of the most characteristic that takes place in the Natural Park, which can be done either by bicycle or in a private 4x4 vehicle or with the services of a 4x4 guided tour. Our route begins in the town of La Iruela, a historic site, but as it is circular, it can be undertaken from any point along the way, returning at the end to the starting point. In the first section, the asphalt track has extraordinary views of the town of Cazorla, with several panoramic viewpoints from which to admire its historic center. 4 km from the exit, right next to the Escaleruela waterfall, we enter a wide dirt track that we will travel for 31 km, having various points of interest such as the views of the Castillo de las Cinco Esquinas, or the monastery of Montesión, Sierra Mágina and Quesada.

At km 12 and after passing through the Chorro Forest House, we reach the Chorro walls where we will be able to contemplate with a bit of luck the majestic flight of the griffon vulture in some magnificent existing vultures.

Subsequently and in continuous ascent and following on the track through which we travel, the signs to the Source of the Guadalquivir, we will pass through Collado Zamora, a true natural balcony and Puerto Lorente the maximum height of our route where we can admire one of the oldest gall oaks of the entire Park. From there, we will begin a long descent that will take us to the Cañada de las Fuentes and the Nacimiento del Guadalquivir.

From the source, and continuing downstream, we will visit very unique places from the landscape, botanical and geological point of view, special mention requires the “Pino Pepe”, an exceptional specimen of black pine at the foot of the track, which suffered the attack several years ago of an unethical visitor who baptized it at the point of a razor, as well as the botanical and geological formations around the Arroyo Amarillo, the constructive majesty of the Cortijo del Calerón or the Puente de las Herrerías (km 35 of the route), according to the legend built in a single night. Right there we will leave the stretch of land to enter the paved road, the JF-7092. In just 3 km of circulating parallel to the river on its right bank and leaving behind the Puente de las Herrerías campsite and the town of Vadillo-Castril, we come to a new bridge over the Guadalquivir. We find there the small dam of the Cerrada de Utrero, with a signposted circular path that well deserves a brief section on our route.

Later and continuing along the JF-7091 we go towards the Empalme del Valle, crossing with the A-319 that we will continue towards Cazorla ascending through the Puerto de las Paloma, s with its two viewpoints, and once it is crowned, sinuous descent towards Burunchel and later bordering the Natural Park and in a less pronounced descent we will arrive at our starting point in La Iruela
