Nava del Espino

Singular places

, Cazorla

Ascending via the Navas road you will come across this remarkable spot which will surprise you with the sheer openness of its spaces. At an altitude of 1430 metres you will find high mountain pastures, areas of pine forest and an old, abandoned forest house, a sign that you have reached your destination. Here you are surrounded by towering peaks, so close you feel you could almost reach out and touch them, such as the Cabeza del Tejo from which you can make out the mountaintops of the Sierra Nevada.

From Nava del Espino a number of tracks lead off towards the highest mountains in the Cazorla range, including Poyos de la Mesa. This route is particularly recommendable for the spectacular views over the Guadalquivir, which can be reached from this plateau.

If you stop for a while in this spot you will have the opportunity to enjoy this marvellous landscape, and if it is the right time of day you are also likely to observe fallow deer eating in the grassy areas.

2 kilometres on from Nava del Espino, continuing along the same track, there is a recreation area next to the spring at Fuente de la Garganta which is an ideal place to rest and recover your energy.

From Cazorla, take the mountain road (A-319) to the Empalme del Valle junction. Turn right on to the JF-7092 and, after crossing the bridge over the River Guadalquivir (4 kilometres from Empalme) take the road leading off to the left (the JF-7091). Nava del Espino is at kilometre 21, following the signage on the road.
