These more or less realistic manifestations, but generally schematic, reproduce human beings, animals and symbols, forming isolated scenes. The representations not only evoke and relate part of daily life, but also leave us testimony of its complex and mysterious spirituality.

World Heritage
In Aldeaquemada, as a sample of its valuable cultural heritage, there are different groups of cave paintings, schematic and Levantine style, distributed by cliffs and rocky shelters of the municipal term, so much so that UNESCO gathered in Kyoto, Japan) in 1998, agreed catalog the Levantine Rock Art of the Spanish Mediterranean Arch, as a World Heritage Site. Gathered in assembly, it granted this important denomination and included in the list the 19 deposits of Levantine and Schematic Rock Art discovered in this municipality, a catalog that has come to recognize and highlight the enormous importance of the cultural manifestations of the ancient inhabitants of these lands.

Open air museums
These sites, unique for their theme, are the most important in Andalusia, and can be considered as authentic open-air museums, of incalculable value whose preservation concerns each and every one. When visiting them, it must be remembered with all due respect that we contemplate figures made by primitive man, (but not for that less human and intelligent) more than 4,000 years ago. All are, by law, Assets of Cultural Interest.
These groups of cave paintings, located in most cases on rock shelters, were studied at the beginning of the 20th century by Abbe Brehuil and by M. Cabré, who cataloged the vast majority of groups existing in the area.
Later, thanks to the new and relevant discoveries of the Chronicler Carlos Sánchez-Batalla, it has been possible to have an expanded relationship and a full awareness of the great heritage value that for Aldeaquemada represents the set of its cave paintings.

Visit the paintings
Visiting these places is very difficult and can be frustrating, not only because of their access, dangerous at times, but because of their poor state of conservation, they make it difficult to see if you are not a specialist. For this reason, before scheduling a visit, you should consult with an expert on the site and be accompanied by a responsible local guide.
The most representative shelters, on which signposted routes have been drawn up, not yet operational until the definitive protection of the paintings, but which can be visited with prior notice (the City Council will provide guides), are those of Table de Pochico, Los Poyos from La Cimbarra, Cimbarrillo del Prado de Reches, Cueva de la Mina, Garganta de la Hoz, Prado del Azogue and Cueva de Los Arcos. Although there are another series of scattered groups.
