Plaza de la Iglesia. 23200, La Carolina How to get

Its construction dates from the end of the 18th century, on the convent of La Peñuela, being the headquarters of the Superintendency of the New Towns of Sierra Morena and Andalusia. In 1835 it became the property of the Civil Government of Jaén.

At this time it was sold and dismantled and used as a school, offices, headquarters of the Civil Guard, among other uses. Until 1871 it was the seat of the City Council. Already in the 20th century, part of the building became a theater, in 1945 it became municipal property and was transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture for the National Wheat Service in 1958. It was in 1972 when it was once again owned by the municipality.

Its monumental Neoclassical style construction and crowned by the coat of arms of Carlos III, makes this building the emblem of La Carolina as the Capital of the New Towns.
